U.S. Marshals Apprehend Alabama Man In Saint Joseph Following Chase
Agents with the U.S. Marshal’s Service apprehended an Alabama man in Saint Joseph Wednesday, arresting him on a warrant for elder abuse.
Lauderdale County officials report that Randy Dale Gray, age 57, of St. Florian, was arrested after leading authorities on a chase.
Warrants had been issued against Gray in March for the alleged abuse of an eighty-three year old relative, however authorities had been unable to locate him. When he was located at a Saint Joseph home
Wednesday, he reportedly attempted to flee, getting into a truck and driving away. He eventually drove through a pasture and became stuck. He then abandoned the truck, running across a pasture and into a wooded area.
Tracking dogs were brought in from the Limestone County Correction Facility. They were quickly able to locate Gray and he was placed under arrest. Authorities said that several residents assisted marshals and Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies in apprehending Gray.
Authorities said that Gray had moved in with the elderly family member after being released from prison in November of 2012. Although he was supposed to be taking care of her, authorities say that she was being abused.
The victim alleges that Gray would not allow her to leave her home. She said when she was sitting in a recliner, he would not let her get up.
Authorities said the woman was often unable to go to the bathroom and she was found, “sitting in her own urine.” In addition, the victim reported that Gray slapped and hit her, and often deprived her of food and drink. She has since been moved to a nursing home.
Gray was incarcerated at the Lauderdale County Detention Center without bond.
